WHO BENEFITS?

Inventors and Creators benefit because advice on protectable intellectual property is indispensable for the right scope of profit from their inventions and creations.

Participating IP lawyers benefit from pro bono work by increasing their experience professionally, cross-culturally, globally and making contacts with persons who may in due course become paying clients, as their businesses grow.

Governments and the IP System benefit because better advice and representation leads to more legal use of IP assets in the economy as well as reducing the time that governments and IP offices spend dealing with cases and matters that suffer from poor understanding, communication or drafting of essential averments.

Users and consumers benefit as more IP from more countries will become legally available, and by increasing the understanding and use of the IP system, the initiative will lead to yet more innovation and creativity and benefit society as a whole.

GET INVOLVED

IP Lawyers 4 All has just started. We are currently focusing our attention to key regions [link/pop out of country names: Southern Africa, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore] as part of a piloting phase, but we are working towards extending links with more governments and IP institutes, as well as lawyers and IP academics to expand membership and participation.

IP attorneys are invited to join as “participating lawyers” to join the initiative. We are also very interested to hear from creators and inventors and small businesses who would like to take part and we would also like to hear from potential sponsors – IP offices, Institutes, businesses and associations of inventors, creators or professionals – that would like to join us. IP Lawyers may participate by accepting the “pledge”, the guiding principles set out in a document available on this website
